Jim was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and attended Dowling Catholic High School. He studied Anthropology at the University of Iowa and graduated in 2013. He received his law degree with Highest Honors from Drake University Law School in 2017. He practices primarily in the personal injury and employment law areas, handling most of the firm's car accident cases. He has tried multiple jury trials and bench trials since joining the firm, and has argued in front of the Iowa Supreme Court and Iowa Court of Appeals.
Jim is married to Emily Secrest Duff, who is from Humeston, Iowa. When he is not working, Jim enjoys spending time with his family, including his sons Mickey and Harrison Duff, watching and attending Hawkeye sporting events, reading, and playing golf.
