Jim Duff is a Des Moines personal injury lawyer and employment attorney who grew up in the capital city and returned home to practice law after graduating with highest honors from Drake University Law School. He represents injured Iowans and employees across the state, handling the majority of the firm’s car accident cases.
Jim was raised in Des Moines and attended Dowling Catholic High School before earning his Anthropology degree from the University of Iowa in 2013. He returned to Des Moines for law school at Drake University, where he graduated with Highest Honors in 2017.
Since joining Duff Law Firm, P.L.C., Jim has tried multiple jury and bench trials and argued cases before both the Iowa Supreme Court and the Iowa Court of Appeals. His practice focuses on personal injury, car accidents, and employment law matters for clients throughout Polk, Story, Dallas, Warren, Linn, Johnson, Woodbury, and Dubuque Counties.
Jim earned his Juris Doctor with Highest Honors from Drake University Law School in 2017, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barristers. He won the 2014 C. Edwin Moore Moot Court Competition and received the Jeffrey and Elizabeth Goodman Distinguished Advocate Award.
At the Sixty-Seventh Annual National Moot Court Competition Region XIV, Jim was recognized as Best Oral Advocate in both the general and final rounds. He also received American Jurisprudence Awards in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. Jim is admitted to practice before the Iowa Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
Jim handles a wide range of injury and workplace cases, from auto accidents and truck collisions to wrongful termination and civil rights violations. He is an active member of the Iowa State Bar Association, the Iowa Association for Justice, the Iowa Association for Justice New Lawyers Section Core Group, and the NAACP Legal Redress Committee.
Outside of the office, Jim is married to Emily Secrest Duff of Humeston, Iowa, and is the proud father of two sons, Mickey and Harrison. When he is not preparing a case, he enjoys Hawkeye football and basketball, reading, and playing golf.
